Day 1: Lemosho Gate to Mti Mkubwa Camp
Your adventure starts with a drive from Moshi or Arusha to Lemosho Gate for registration and meeting your trekking team. The hike begins through the dense rainforest, with chances to spot monkeys and exotic birds. The trail is relatively short and leads to Mti Mkubwa Camp (2,650m), where you will spend your first night.
Day 2: Mti Mkubwa Camp to Shira 2 Camp
Leaving the rainforest, you enter the moorland and heath zone. The trail becomes steeper as you ascend to the Shira Plateau, passing Shira 1 Camp and continuing to Shira 2 Camp (3,850m). This is a long day but provides excellent acclimatization. You will have stunning views of Kibo Peak and Mount Meru along the way.
Day 3: Shira 2 Camp to Barranco Camp via Lava Tower
Today is crucial for acclimatization as you ascend to Lava Tower (4,630m) before descending to Barranco Camp (3,960m). The landscape shifts to alpine desert, with massive boulders and volcanic rock formations. Spending time at a higher altitude before descending helps your body adjust, improving your chances of reaching the summit.
Day 4: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp
The day starts with a challenging but rewarding climb up the Barranco Wall. Though steep, it is non-technical and provides incredible views. The trail then undulates through valleys before reaching Karanga Camp (4,035m). This is a relatively short hike, allowing for rest and acclimatization.
Day 5: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp
The trek continues through the alpine desert to Barafu Camp (4,673m), the base camp for the summit attempt. The barren landscape offers breathtaking views of Mawenzi Peak and Kibo. You will have an early dinner and rest, as the summit push begins around midnight.
Day 6: Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp
The summit attempt begins just after midnight, with a slow and steady climb in freezing temperatures. After reaching Stella Point (5,756m), you push on to Uhuru Peak (5,895m), the highest point in Africa. After taking in the incredible sunrise and capturing photos, you descend to Mweka Camp (3,100m), passing Barafu Camp along the way. This long but rewarding day marks the highlight of your trek.
Day 7: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate
The final stretch takes you through lush rainforest as you descend to Mweka Gate (1,640m). Here, you will receive your summit certificate and say goodbye to your trekking crew before being transferred back to Moshi or Arusha, marking the end of your incredible Kilimanjaro journey.
